ZAC Recording – Atlanta, GA (Mercury 66, Mercury EQ-H1)

ZAC Recording is a three-room studio complex located in Atlanta, Georgia; owned and operated by long-time Atlanta audio engineer Jim Zumpano.

Zumpano, who is known to most as 'Jim Z', worked for many years in other Atlanta studios. He also owned a successful equipment rental business called Eclipse Audio. In 2001, Jim Z started ZAC Recording, which has been a mainstay in the Atlanta Recording Community ever since. ZAC has hosted and recorded a variety of the who's who in popular music for nearly 15 years, providing a comfortable, professional recording environment focused on providing choices and flexibility for their clients only a studio complex like ZAC can provide.

'Stonehenge' is a state-of-the-art room with a Studer A827 2", 24 track and Studer A820 1/2" 2 track analog tape machines to go with an 88-channel SSL 4088 G+ console, and of course Pro Tools with 48 channels of ins and outs. Several nearfield monitors and Augspurger mains to listen through, and classic and new outboard equipment to use to track and mix from: Mercury Recording Equipment, Neve, Pultec, GML, API, Marquette Audio Labs-racked Telefunken V72s and WSW Limiters, and more.

I have gotten to where I can not track or mix without these two beautiful Mercury 66 Limiting Amplifiers... they are 'butter' on anything I throw them on. ZAC's A room is equipped with the first Neve Genesys console in the USA. The 32 frame console has 24 channels of preamps with 16 channels of EQ and 8 channels of dynamics. Dedicated Pro Tools System, Augspurger mains, several nearfield monitors and a selection of outboard equipment for tracking and mixing. The A Room has two ISO booths.

ZAC's B Room has a Digidesign Pro Control 16 Surface, Pro Tools, Digidesign and TL plug-in bundles and selected outboard equipment for tracking; plus midfield monitors with sub and nearfields to listen through.
